One of the main goals of ELOISE! in 2003 was to develop a special server software that could join the objectives of university-based research and the needs of practical education. In 2005, we had ELOISE! Platform.
-
The new platform allows university teachers to direct a research project, giving their students the opportunity to participate in the research process by way of university lectures.
-
The platform provides a set of elaborate multimedia tools and is suited for all disciplines working with texts and audiovisual sources on a comparative basis.
-
Students collect source material, prepare it digitally for the platform, and upload it. Then they compare media clips, synchronising them and generating subtitles and annotations on the fly. They write protocols and analyse and interpret the material. In order to share their results, they compile interactive presentations using the very material they worked with in order to make it comprehensible to other users of the platform. These e-papers, together with other forms of collecting information within the platform, are a way of permanently adding content to the database of the platform's research project.

ELOISE! Platform is in use for several research projects at Vienna university and the University of Innsbruck (both in Austria), from October 2007 also at the University of Munich (Germany). Since 2005, more than 1000 students have been successfully working with ELOISE.
-
In a follow-up project funded by Vienna university, MOVE!, we want to determine and show the platform's potential for building interactive tutorials as well as blended learning-courses with a strong practical angle. Three exemplary courses covering the fields of media semiotics, film and television analysis, and intermedia translation will be available on our platform by fall 2007.
-
ELOISE! Main team at the University of Vienna: Rainer M. Koeppl, Martin Schwehla, Hannes Auinger; project partner University of Technology, Vienna: Christian Breiteneder, Martin Hon, Robert Fuchs. The combined team adds up to about 25 people working permanently or temporarily for the project.

Whoever wants to use our system just needs a server with the standard Apache – MySQL – PHP package. As a university teacher, you may download the software from this homepage after contacting us in order to obtain the access code. We also have a test environment where you can try out all the features of the platform. The software will be distributed free of charge at least until the end of 2007. We have developed a technical and didactical support package which we permanently try to make bigger and better. Our personal resources, however, do not allow us to offer you direct support.

We are always interested in cooperating with potential platform users in order to enhance the functionality of the platform on a mutual basis.
